Just around the corner to another port was where very large vessels were docked at the harbor. The ships were at bay for the warm months, since they were used as ice breakers in the winter.

I was amazed since for three months the crew of the ships trace the Baltic and smash ice in their paths. It was definitely something new for me to see and it obviously was very important to Finnish trade and economics making it very neat to see!
Back at the Kiukkonen's house, Anna had another really fun night planned out. At home in the back yard the family set up a projector to view all of the pictures of their trips in which we had been discussing. While we were going to be outside viewing pictures, we were going to be cooking as well.

On a big skillet over a gas lit BBQ in the back yard Anna had planned that we were going to make Finnish style crepes for the evening. The batter was made ( the only major difference was that the "Lattyja" were of a thicker and less crispy consistency of crepes. They were still very delicious) and once the skillet was hot we started cooking and flipping our deserts outside. It was really so much fun. I had been enjoying every moment with the Kiukkonen family for they were offering me so many great experiences in our short week together. From the very beginning I enjoyed how cultured the family was. Ari, Emma, and especially Anna had a passion for art and many of their final creations decorated the house. Along with this and their travels, they enjoyed integrating influences of international cuisine into their foods including Asian and in this case French. There was so much to talk about and in addition to my excitement about all of their hobbies and interests, through talking with Anna I gained a new drive and passion to study more languages. I was really learning and discovering a lot at my new home in Finland!

I attempted to make my own crepes, but succeeded in ripping them each time in the process, but I enjoyed every minute of it.

To go along with our deserts we had fresh whipped cream, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and a variety of Jams ( oh, how I love Finnish deserts!).

Everything was so relaxing as we sat in lawn chairs eating our creations while viewing pictures of my host family's trips to France as well as their summer cottage in central Finland.

It was such an amazing night and once again I went to bed so happy, satisfied, and exhausted which was a good sign to me that every moment had been adventure filled with new things to see and do.
